Recessed Skaker Card

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

Adding a shaker to a card is a great way to add a little fun to a card. Today we are making a 6x6 shaker card where the shaker is recessed into the front of the card. Below you will find a list of papers needed, step by step directions. There are also links to the stamps and dies used and a video on you tube.

Paper needed for 6x6- all measurements are in inches

12x6 heavy cardstock scored at 6 inches- for card base

5 3/4x 5 3/4 paper

5 1/2 x 5 1/2 patterned paper

4x4 heavy weight white paper - to die cut snow globe

3x1 1/2 paper- to dies cut snow globe base

4x3 1/2 paper to stamp on

4x4 acetate

Paper for the sentiment of your choice

Dies and stamps used

Pink and Main empty snow globe https://pinkandmain.com/empty-snow-globe-dies/

Other materials used

1/4 in paper leaves- I cut them on my Cameo

Shaker bites

Directions

1. With a temporary adhesive and only in the center, mat and layer the 5 3/4 in and the 5 1/2 in squares.

2. Die cut the snow globe with the inner globe nested inside the outer outline die.

3. Die cut the rectangular snow globe base

4. Place the snow globe outline die on the mat and layer where you want the shaker to be. Leave room for your sentiment. Then place the inner globe die in the correct position and tape, just the inner globe piece to the paper. Remove the outline die. Then run the inner diethrough your die cut machine.

5. Separate the mat and layer papers.

6. Adhere the acetate to the 5 3/4 square, covering the opening.

7. Adhere the 5 !/2 square patterned paper on top of the acetate, lining up the opening.

8. Adhere the die cut snow globe to the patterned paper. I suggest a wet glue so you can nudge the snow globe into place.

9. Adhere the die cut snow globe rectangular base to the bottom of the snow globe

10. Stamp the fall snow globe scene on the 4x3 1/2 paper and color. If you are coloring the background check to make sure the area you are coloring will fill the snow globe opening

11. Adhere foam tape to the back side of the mat and layer alone the opening and remove the backing.

12. Fill the shaker with the bits you want.

13. Add glue to the foam tape. This will give you a few seconds to adjust the colored scene if you have to.

14. Place the colored scene on top of the foam centered the way you want.

15. Adhere the sentiment of your choice to the front

Here is an alternate way to make the shaker if you have trouble closing the shaker

1. Take the colored scene and with a pencil lightly trace around the outside of the snow globe base with the pictured centered where you want it.

2. Adhere the foam tape around the outside of your pencil line.

3. Fill the shaker with the bits of your choice.

Line up the mat and layer over the shaker and adhere.
